SUMMARY:Wolverine Science Pub - Ketchum\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Note: time changed to 6:30pm! \nConjure up an image of a reclusive creature with the profile of a giant armadillo\, the proportions and grace of a river otter\, and the thick mane of a grizzly. As if dropped out of one’s imagination or taken from the crayon-scribbled colorings of our childhood\, the North American wolverine is a perfect mish-mash of our most fanciful wildlife dreams\, come to life for real. And\, at long last\, the creature\, in all its untamed wildness\, has been protected under the Endangered Species Act. \nJoin Idaho Conservation League’s Wildlife Program Associate\, Jeff Abrams\, for a presentation on this remarkable species – one that takes refuge in the mountains surrounding the Wood River Valley! \nNo RSVP or scientific background is required. Just bring your curiosity\, sense of humor\, and appetite for drinks and knowledge.

SUMMARY:Looking Back & Planning Ahead: The Road to a Clean Energy Future – Ketchum\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in a conversation about our recent climate history\, the need for our energy systems to adapt\, and the current tools being used to address the climate crisis. We’ll provide some context on how the last 30 years of climate policy have shaped the reality we’re in today\, and the next steps moving forward. It’s a critical decade to address our climate\, environmental\, and energy issues – but the opportunities to mitigate the worst effects of climate change are within reach. While individual actions alone can’t solve climate change\, engaged climate advocates working together are essential to addressing this global problem! \nPlease join us to discuss our energy present and future\, while leaving plenty of time for questions (which you can also submit ahead of time). No RSVP or scientific background is required –  just bring your curiosity and appetite for knowledge!

SUMMARY:Vineyard Lake Cleanup - Twin Falls\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Join ICL for a cleanup day at Vineyard Lake in the Snake River Canyon! As hidden as it is\, Vineyard Lake sees a lot of recreationists – and the land there is feeling the impact. ICL and volunteers will meet at the trailhead\, hike in together\, and pick up trash in the area. Following the cleanup\, we will eat lunch and hear from ICL’s Senior Conservation Associate\, Josh Johnson\, about the current state of the beloved Snake River. Space is limited\, so RSVP today to secure your spot! \nTrail condition: The trail begins on top of the canyon rim\, passing through protected private property that is managed as active pastureland with livestock. From there\, the path winds to the edge of the canyon before going down the canyon and over/around crumbled rocks. The 1.5-mile roundtrip hike takes about an hour and has a total elevation gain/drop of roughly 200 feet. A moderate level of physical fitness is required for this hike due to the nature of the terrain. \nWhat to bring: Lunch\, sun protection\, plenty of water\, sturdy hiking shoes\, gardening or latex gloves. \nICL will provide: Snacks and trash bags.

SUMMARY:Covenant of the Salmon People - Pocatello\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Join the Idaho Salmon Partnership for a screening of Covenant of the Salmon People. \nCovenant of the Salmon People is a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. \nThe film explores the intertwined fate of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce)\, salmon\, and the landscape from which both evolved. The Nez Perce people are the oldest documented civilization in North America\, with archaeological sites along Idaho’s Salmon River dating back 16\,500 years. Today the Tribe is facing the extirpation of their most prized salmon species despite decades of recovery efforts. The widespread construction of dams across their Traditional lands have continued to challenge salmon recovery. \nThe only option remaining for the Tribe\, is the breach of four dams on the lower Snake River– will the Federal Government take charge of the situation or sit idly while this iconic species vanishes from their home waters? \nProceeds and donations collected at this event will go directly towards event costs and to the Nez Perce Tribe. \nThis event is not sponsored by Idaho State University.

SUMMARY:Covenant of the Salmon People - Sun Valley\, ID

SUMMARY:Voices for the West: Enlightened by Dark Sky - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join  ICL and Advocates for the West for the next Voices for the West webinar to discuss the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve. The Reserve is a treasured resource for all Idahoans and visitors from across the world that come to experience the wonder of the starry night sky and is the result of a collective commitment by communities\, public land managers\, and private landowners to support the dark sky experience. Designated in 2017\, the Reserve is the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the U.S. and only the twelfth Dark Sky Reserve worldwide. \nThe designation represents nearly two decades of planning efforts and policy decisions by city and county leaders\, local businesses and organizations\, and public land managers. Working together\, these partners continue to focus on preserving the quality of the night-time environment and reducing the impact of light pollution in the area. We’re excited to be joined by the Idaho Conservation League’s (ICL) Central Idaho Director Betsy Mizell\, ICL Board Member Matt Benjamin\, and Idaho Dark Sky Alliance President Carol Cole. Voices for the West is a monthly webinar brought to you by Advocates for the West. \n\n\nPhoto by Nils Ribi Photography.
