DESCRIPTION:Join the Idaho Salmon Partnership for a screening of Covenant of the Salmon People. \nCovenant of the Salmon People is a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. \nThe film explores the intertwined fate of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce)\, salmon\, and the landscape from which both evolved. The Nez Perce people are the oldest documented civilization in North America\, with archaeological sites along Idaho’s Salmon River dating back 16\,500 years. Today the Tribe is facing the extirpation of their most prized salmon species despite decades of recovery efforts. The widespread construction of dams across their Traditional lands have continued to challenge salmon recovery. \nThe only option remaining for the Tribe\, is the breach of four dams on the lower Snake River– will the Federal Government take charge of the situation or sit idly while this iconic species vanishes from their home waters? \nProceeds and donations collected at this event will go directly towards event costs and to the Nez Perce Tribe.

Working together\, these partners continue to focus on preserving the quality of the night-time environment and reducing the impact of light pollution in the area. DESCRIPTION:In 1939\, Bald Mountain opened to skiing\, forever changing the Wood River Valley and the winter recreation industry. However\, over the last 20 years\, this iconic mountain’s trees have been increasingly threatened by wildfire\, a growing bark beetle infestation\, and multiple disease outbreaks. SUMMARY:White Bark Pine Restoration Project at Railroad Ridge (new date)
DESCRIPTION:Join Idaho Conservation League\, ICL Wilderness Stewards and the National Forest Foundation for a day of giving back at Railroad Ridge. We will be hand “caching” approximately 10\,000 whitebark pine seeds. Volunteers will be split into teams and distributed across Railroad Ridge. Located in the White Cloud Mountains\, central Idaho’s Railroad Ridge stands above 10\,000 feet and offers incredible views. The area is particularly well adapted for whitebark pine and is a good representation of the whitebark pine ecosystem. The area’s whitebark has been significantly impacted by blister rust and has experienced high levels of mortality. This project will include opportunities to learn more about the importance of whitebark pine while you help to restore its presence on Railroad Ridge. Seeds for this project have been collected over the last few years and are currently held at Lucky Peak nursery. \nPlanting location: White Bark Pine Restoration Project\, East Fork of the Salmon River\, Railroad Ridge\nMeeting time: 9:30 am\nMeeting location: Big Boulder Trailhead\nSpecial Requirements: a sturdy\, high clearance\, 4-wheel drive vehicle with good tires will be necessary to reach the planting site on Railroad Ridge. If volunteers do not have access to a suitable 4-wheel drive vehicle\, shuttling will be provided from the nearby Big Boulder Trailhead. \nVolunteers may choose to camp nearby overnight either the day before or after the event given the long travel to Railroad Ridge. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Vineyard Lake Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Join ICL for a cleanup day at Vineyard Lake in the Snake River Canyon! As hidden as it is\, Vineyard Lake sees a lot of recreationists – and the land there is feeling the impact. ICL and volunteers will meet at the trailhead\, hike in together\, and pick up trash in the area. Following the cleanup\, we will eat lunch and hear from ICL’s Senior Conservation Associate\, Josh Johnson\, about the current state of the beloved Snake River. Space is limited\, so RSVP today to secure your spot! \nTrail condition: The trail begins on top of the canyon rim\, passing through protected private property that is managed as active pastureland with livestock. From there\, the path winds to the edge of the canyon before going down the canyon and over/around crumbled rocks. The 1.5-mile roundtrip hike takes about an hour and has a total elevation gain/drop of roughly 200 feet. A moderate level of physical fitness is required for this hike due to the nature of the terrain. \nWhat to bring: Lunch\, sun protection\, plenty of water\, sturdy hiking shoes.  \nICL will provide: Snacks\, gloves and trash bags. \nRegister Here \n  \nMeeting location and final details will be sent to registrants one week before the event.

SUMMARY:Shoshone-Bannock Fish & Wildlife Perspectives on Salmon Studies
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Earth Day\, Kurt Tardy and Rob Trahant will join us to discuss their salmon recovery work with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. They’ll share the history of the Tribes’ fishing practices along Idaho’s rivers and current tribal resource management and inter-agency coordination\, including specific projects at Pettit Lake and on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. They’ll also look ahead to the future of sockeye and chinook\, rivers and dam management\, and climate change before inviting your questions. \nKurt Tardy\, Fisheries Manager\, is an anadromous fish biologist who has worked with the Shoshone-Bannock tribes in central Idaho for nearly a decade. Kurt’s focus is on fish restoration\, with the long-term goal of restoring salmon and steelhead populations to their historic abundance and the short-term goal of saving them from impending extinction \nRob Trahant (Shoshone-Bannock) is a fisheries technician for the Tribes and lead technician on the Pettit Lake Weir facility. He has worked since 1995 on sockeye recovery efforts in the Sawtooth Basin. \nIn-person attendance is limited\, so be sure to register below. Unable to attend in-person?
