SUMMARY:"The Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind" with Amy Gulick - Boise\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Intrigued that there is still a place in the world where the lives of people and wild salmon are\ninextricably linked\, writer and photographer Amy Gulick ventured to Alaska to explore the web\nof human relationships that revolve around these extraordinary fish. Commercial fishermen\ntook her on as crew; Alaska Native families taught her the art of preserving fish and culture; and\nsport fishing guides showed her where to cast her line as well as her mind. Alaskans\neverywhere shared their salmon riches with her in their kitchens\, cabins\, and fish camps—it’s\nthe salmon way. \nJoin Amy as she shares engaging stories and stunning images from her award-winning book\,\nThe Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind. She’ll also talk about the exciting opportunity in the\nPacific Northwest to restore salmon and ways of life in the Snake River of the Columbia Basin. \n  \n \nAmy Gulick is an award-winning nature photographer and writer\, a Fellow with the\nInternational League of Conservation Photographers\, and a Fellow with The Safina Center. SUMMARY:Covenant of the Salmon People Screening - Seattle Patagonia Store
DESCRIPTION:Join Idaho Conservation League in downtown Seattle for a free screening of Covenant of the Salmon People. \nCovenant of the Salmon People is a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. \nThe film explores the intertwined fate of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce)\, salmon\, and the landscape from which both evolved. The Nez Perce people are the oldest documented civilization in North America\, with archaeological sites along Idaho’s Salmon River dating back 16\,500 years. Today the Tribe is facing the extirpation of their most prized salmon species despite decades of recovery efforts. The widespread construction of dams across their Traditional lands have continued to challenge salmon recovery. \nThe only option remaining for the Tribe\, is the breach of four dams on the lower Snake River– will the Federal Government take charge of the situation or sit idly while this iconic species vanishes from their home waters? \nRegister Here
