SUMMARY:Covenant of the Salmon People - Salmon\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Join the Idaho Salmon Partnership for a screening of Covenant of the Salmon People. \nCovenant of the Salmon People is a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. \nThe film explores the intertwined fate of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce)\, salmon\, and the landscape from which both evolved. The Nez Perce people are the oldest documented civilization in North America\, with archaeological sites along Idaho’s Salmon River dating back 16\,500 years. Today the Tribe is facing the extirpation of their most prized salmon species despite decades of recovery efforts. The widespread construction of dams across their Traditional lands have continued to challenge salmon recovery. \nThe only option remaining for the Tribe\, is the breach of four dams on the lower Snake River– will the Federal Government take charge of the situation or sit idly while this iconic species vanishes from their home waters? \nProceeds and donations collected at this event will go directly towards event costs and to the Nez Perce Tribe. \nTHIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

SUMMARY:Idaho Wilderness Trail Webinar - Online
DESCRIPTION:Get ready and get inspired with this trip report adventure from the Idaho Wilderness Trail! Join father and son duo\, Tom and Will Gattiker for this visual webinar and hear more about the 300 miles they covered through Idaho’s backcountry. Stories from the Middle Fork Salmon and Sawtooth Range\, the Selway\, and little known areas like Rhoda Creek\, Parker Mountain\, Hidden Creek and Horse Creek. \nLearn about the strategies they dealt with about the route’s complications including resupply logistics\, inaccurate information and fire\, snow\, sleet\, rattlesnakes and bears. \nThe Idaho Wilderness Trail stretches for 296 miles across three central Idaho wilderness areas that comprise nearly four million acres\, an area larger than most national parks: the 1.3-million acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness\, the nearly 2.4-million-acre Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness\, and the 217\,000-acre Sawtooth Wilderness. Nearly 350 miles long when including three remote road sections (where backpackers may be able to catch rides)\, the IWT can be hiked as four distinct stages or thru-hiked in a month or less. Conceived by Boise outdoors writer Michael Lanza and developed with the Idaho Conservation League\, the IWT showcases Idaho’s world-class wilderness areas and represents the wildest long-distance hiking trail in the Lower 48. \nJoin us for this FREE webinar\, May 10\, 6:00-7:00pm MTN. SUMMARY:Water Quality Monitoring Program Volunteer Training - Sandpoint\, ID
DESCRIPTION:Do you love Lake Pend Oreille\, and want to see it thrive for years to come? Join the Water Quality Monitoring Program! \nThe Water Quality Monitoring Program (WQMP) is a consistent\, long-term monitoring effort to measure water quality across Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River. This is a citizen-science initiative led by dedicated community volunteers. The program’s goals are to inform the public and provide high-quality scientific data that regulatory agencies can use when making water quality-based decisions for our local waterways. Each site is evaluated for 11 different biological\, chemical\, and physical tests\, and monitoring occurs once a month from May through September. Volunteers must be able to access their monitoring location by some form of watercraft (kayak\, canoe\, etc.). \nTo participate in this program\, volunteers are required to attend a training at Windbag Marina on either April 19th or May 10th from 5:30-7:30 pm PT.  Email Karissa Huntsman to RSVP or if you have any questions! khuntsman@idahoconservation.org \nWe hope to see you there! \n
